Pretend Poets are a four piece musical outfit that formed in South Wales in the early part of 2014. Their musical style primarily consists of soft rock, with a strong emphasis on Funk, as well as elements of Hip-Hop, R’n’B, Punk and Ska among others. The band have coined the term ‘Driftwood’ when discussing their sound, referencing the fact that their music seems to drift between genres.
Following the success of Steve Evans’ (Vocals) solo project ‘Tortoise in Shoes’ the soon-to-be front man contacted some old School/College friends in Hari Powell (Bass/ Backing Vocals) and Dan Galloway (Guitar/Backing Vocals) respectively, with the aim of starting up a band. After a few jam sessions, there was an obvious chemistry between the 3 musicians, and the band began writing fresh material, while playing open mic nights around the Swansea area. The summer of 2014 saw the introduction of Dave Williams (Drums) to complete the quartets lineup. The band concentrated on getting their live performance as tight as possible, while spreading their music by gigging around the South Wales area.
The boys recently recorded their debut single ‘Cool, Calm, Collected’ with Boneyard studios. The fusion of funk-driven riffs and the vigor of the vocals is guaranteed to get your foot tapping. For the Rest of 2015, Pretend Poets aim to play live as much as possible, with the hope of recording their debut E.P by the end of the year. Watch this space!
